Piles and piles

Today my current task is to place all the piles of things we have in our living room into their new location somewhere in our apartment. We received the last "round" of wedding gifts this weekend - we picked them up at Nate's mom's place and have officially opened every gift. It took quite a while! This was practically like the biggest Christmas experience I've ever had - getting like 120 presents is out of control and a super blessing. Now just to figure out where to put them all. (Again, for those of you reading this, thank you for your gifts!!! Thank you notes will be coming somewhere in the next 10 years depending on how long it takes to write them. ha)

Also on the agenda: figuring out how to lower our food budget. If any of you have any suggestions beyond just using coupons or looking at sales in the paper, please let me know how to maintain a monthly grocery budget and still have a variety of fun cooking options! : )

Current favorite music to listen to while unpacking and organizing: Rosi Golan, The Drifter and the Gypsy, specifically Think of Me.

grocery budget tip: okay, i'm still working on spending less on food, but so far this is the best way i know how. i plan all the meals for the week on sunday afternoon, and i try to plan meals where the ingredients coincide. like mexican one night (always a cheap meal) and then chili and jalapeno corn bread the next - you can use part of the canned corn and jalapenos from mexican night and what ever is left from the ground beef. It used to take me over an hour to plan our weekly menu, but has gotten a lot easier over the years. make a list and go to the grocery store ONCE that week for everything you need, and DO NOT STRAY from your list. if it's not on the list, it is not in your cart.

also, once you get your house stocked with normal cooking necessities, it should be cheaper later.

we try to eat vegetarian once or twice a week as meat is so expensive, and i always plan my meals according to which ingredients i already have. remember the website that someone at your shower was talking about: allrecipes.com. you can look up recipes based on the ingredients that you already have.

hopefully this helps! and i hope you have an easier time getting into the kitchen than i did.

So I follow a blogger here in the Springs who writes about all the best bargains here for that week at all the major grocery stores. She tells you what coupons to use where and when, when to stock up, and what is or isn't a good deal. These bloggers are everywhere, so hopefully you can find one in your area. I save from 50% to 75% on every grocery bill and get alot of items for free. Google Bargains in your area. The lady I read is really sweet and would probably help you find one in your area, she answers all the emails she gets: www.springsbargains.com Good luck!!
